10/29

The party

The sheriff’s file places Summer at Whitcomb Hall on Friday night. One witness describes her as heavily intoxicated. A description is a starting point, not a conclusion.

10:18

The stopped watch

Her watch stopped at 10:18. The report treats it as part of the timeline. What can a stopped watch really establish?

10/30

North Cove. The next morning.

Summer Vance, 18, is found at the breakwater at 7:10 AM. The place where she was found is in the file. How she got there is another question.

10/31

“Accidental.” File closed.

The sheriff closes the death as an accidental fall. The Medical Examiner has not yet ruled on manner of death. Two different records. Read both.

11/01

Her mother asks someone to look.

Dana Vance challenges the account and asks investigators to look at the school’s boathouse. Her complaint becomes part of the assignment.

11/03

The evidence lands on your desk.

You are assigned to review the ruling. The original file, an evidence box, and an undeveloped roll of film are waiting. Your job is to test the story.

YOUR CALL

Does the accident ruling hold?

Read the evidence. Keep what is established separate from what is assumed. Then file a report you can support.

Better than “what should we watch?”

One screen and a story where you make the call. Instead of another evening spent choosing what to watch.

Date night, with an argument built in.

Two people, one screen, and one of you is about to be very wrong. Read together, argue a little, sign the verdict together.
